Left Behind

06/26/2007
We love animals here at the Zoo—so we want to remind all of our visitors to leave their pets at home.

Pets are not allowed in the Zoo! (They could frighten or spread diseases to our animals). And leaving a pet inside a locked car can be deadly.

Even on a cool day (72 degrees) the temperature inside a parked car will climb to 116 degrees within a hour. On a warm day, the temperature can rocket past 120 degrees in just few minutes and will kill any animal that is trapped inside. The results are so horrific that North Carolina law states that
leaving an animal in a car during hot weather constitutes animal cruelty if that animal is discovered to be suffering.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals offers this tip: Never leave an animal alone in a vehicle. Even with the windows open, a vehicle can quickly become deadly hot for an animal. Parking in shade offers little protection, since the sun shifts during the day.

Show your pets how much care. Leave them at home.
