Big Bear's Back

Wilhelm, the Zoo's Polar Bear will be back in his exhibit after a short stay in an off-exhibit holding area.

Staff took Wilhelm off exhibit a few months ago in order to fix a major leak in his swimming pool. After the repairs were completed, staff decided to take advantage of Wilhelm's absence by loaning his freshly refurbished digs out to the Sea Lions.

Other construction (the addition of a new shade structure) had forced the Sea Lions to vacate their pool and exhibit, too. And the Sea Lions were roaring to get back into the water.

Since sharing the pool with Wilhelm was not a healthy option for the Sea Lions, Zoo staff opted to leave him off-exhibit and let the Sea Lions have his pool for a short time.  Meanwhile, Wilhelm spent his time using a smaller pool in an off-exhibit holding space near the veterinary hospital
