Fun Times Ahead at the Zoo

03/25/2009
Two more young Giraffes arrived at the Zoo a few weeks ago. Although not on exhibit yet—they are still in quarantine—the two youngsters, one male and one female, increased the Zoo's herd to five. After completing their quarantine, the new Giraffes will go into training with their keepers before going on exhibit. Keepers need to introduce the calves to the other Giraffes, to their exhibit and to the other animals—Zebras and Ostriches—in the exhibit.

Below are photographs of the two most recent arrivals. The photographs were snapped in the giraffes' quarantine area.

Bongos have arrived at the Zebra, Ostrich and Giraffe barn, too. These large antelopes will be in quarantine for several more weeks before they enter the same training sessions.

A new Cacomistle has gone on exhibit in the Sonoran Desert exhibit. Also called a Ringtail, the new animal will give our resident Cacomistle a companion.
