Pennies for Polar Bears is a Zoo Society - Zoo School partnership that asked elementary students from Randolph County and Asheboro City Schools to spend a month raising money for Project: Polar Bears—a fund-raising campaign to help the Zoo expand its Polar Bear exhibit and Polar Bear conservation efforts. Pennies for Polar Bears began in October.
So far, the project has gathered $4,066.37 from six schools. The total reflects a sizable chunk of change that contains: 192,910 pennies, 3,865 nickels, 5,614 dimes and 2,498 quarters, 18 gold dollars,$674 in bills plus $66.12 in coins rejected by the counting machine.

The Zoo Society will treat the class from each school that raises the
most money to an ice cream party. The overall classroom winner out of
all participating schools will receive a behind-the-scenes tour of
select locations at the zoo. The Society will announce the winners by
early December.
