What better way to honor a friend than by giving comfort to the Zoo's animals?
Lions, zebras and other Zoo animals can’t speak up when they get sick. Instead, they rely on zoo veterinarians to recognize and treat their illnesses. But, zoo veterinarians need highly specialized equipment to figure out what ails their patients.
Zoo veterinary equipment has to cope with the extra special needs of treating its extra large and extra strong patients. A zoo needs endoscopes and laparoscopes, for example, that are long enough to reach down an ostrich’s throat or up an elephant’s trunk. But, without this equipment, veterinarians often cannot figure out how to make an animal well again.
Recently, one of the Zoo Veterinary Hospital’s most important and specialized endoscopes stopped working. It can’t be fixed. It is just too old and too worn out. For now, when our staff needs to use this piece of equipment, they have to call on the veterinary school in Raleigh to pack up an endoscope and drive it to Asheboro. The cost for driving it here is enormous, and it takes several hours, at least, to get the scope here—causing delays that can be costly in an emergency.
We need to raise $23,000 so that the Zoo can replace its endoscope and, once again, guarantee its animals quick access to this diagnostic equipment. We are counting on our good friends, like you, to allow the Zoo to replace the endoscope before the New Year arrives.
Click here to give a tax-free gift to help the Zoo help its animals—and, if you want to, designate your donation as a gift that honors or memorializes someone you love. Donors giving $1,000 or more will be invited to meet a Zoo veterinarian behind the scenes to tour the hospital and see the new endoscope and how it works.
Thank you for considering this request and for helping us provide the Zoo’s animals with the care that they deserve.
