Year of the Frog

The N.C. Zoo and Zoo Society will be joining with zoos and aquariums around the world to celebrate 2008 as the international Year of the Frog.

The year's programs, fun and games will highlight:

  • Frogs— as our good neighbors—so that we can glean the most enjoyment from the songs, antics and work that frogs perform throughout the year.
  • Frogs—as our responsibility—so that people can work together to protect the water, the land and the air that they, and we, need to ensure a healthy future.

Watch this spot to discover how your Zoo will celebrate the Year of the Frog by:

Meeting the four frogs who are running to become the N.C. State Frog.
Casting your vote to elect one of these fine frogs to its place in history;

Offering you the chance to adopt Hope, a Cope's Gray Treefrog, so that you can help the Zoo build a regional Amphibian Conservation Center;

Inviting adoptive parents to sign up Frog Songs—an automatic e-mail alert to let Hope's parents know when and which frog species are singing in the Park.

Keeping you informed on the special frog programs, celebrations and fun the Zoo and Society will hold as the Year of the Frog unfolds.
