2019 Veterinary Science Camps

Camp sessions are taught by the North Carolina Zoo’s Veterinary staff in conjunction with counselors chosen from among the top students at North Carolina State University Veterinary School. These counselors remain with the campers throughout the program.

Application Process

All applicants must provide the following:
  • A current transcript or report card showing a minimum "B" grade point average
  • The name/phone number of a veterinarian, science teacher, or homeroom teacher as a reference
  • A completed online Veterinary Camp Application form [opens as a new tab/page]
  • A mailed or FAX copy of the appropriate Veterinary Camp Health Form (see below)
  • A $5 application processing fee ($7.50 if applying to both camps)

Acceptance Procedure:

We choose our campers on March 15. If on that date, we have more qualified applicants than we have openings, we hold a drawing at noon to select our campers.
Eight qualified applicants for each camping session can avoid this lottery and secure a guaranteed camp admission by paying an early admission fee. This fee is non-refundable and must be paid at the beginning of the application process. The early admission fee for the junior, one-day camps is $50. The early admission fee for the senior, three-day camps is $100. The early admission fee increases the total tuition costs by $50 for junior campers and by $100 for senior campers.

Camp fees cover all expenses. A large portion of the admission fee is tax-deductible as a donation to the NC Zoo Society, the private, non-profit organization that raises money for the NC Zoo. Proceeds support the NC Zoo's Veterinary programs. Fees may be paid in installments. Non-member campers are provided with a Zoo Society membership when camp tuition is paid.
