2020 Veterinary Science Camps

Camp sessions are taught by the North Carolina Zoo’s Veterinary staff in conjunction with counselors chosen from among the top students at North Carolina State University Veterinary School. These counselors remain with the campers throughout the program.

Application Process

All applicants must provide the following:
  • A current transcript or report card showing a minimum "B" grade point average
  • The name/phone number of a veterinarian, science teacher, or homeroom teacher as a reference
  • A completed online Veterinary Camp Application form [opens as a new tab/page]
  • A mailed or FAX copy of the appropriate Veterinary Camp Health Form (see below)
  • A $5 application processing fee ($7.50 if applying to both camps)

Acceptance Procedure

Because we usually receive many more applications from qualified candidates than we have openings for camp, we schedule a lottery for March 13th to select our campers.

Because some parents want to assure a place for their child in one of these camps so that they can give this experience as a special gift, we make it possible for eight qualified applicants to secure guaranteed admission to a camp by paying an early admission fee. This fee is non-refundable and must be paid at the beginning of the application process. The early admission fee for the junior, one-day camp is $50. The early admission fee for the senior, three-day camp is $100. The early admission fee increases the total tuition costs by $50 for junior campers and by $100 for senior campers. Scroll to the bottom of the page for more information on guaranteeing admission for your child.
